Focus on helping others, rather than what you want.
Mutual benefits are the basis of networking. I scratch your back and you scratch mine. And being the person who originated connecting with the other, it’s up to you to start out by adding value to the other person’s life.
In networking it seems that pretty much everyone has the viewpoint of “what’s in it for me.” By assuming the viewpoint of “what’s in it for them” you set yourself apart from everyone else and become someone others want to meet and network with.
Point of focus would be:
· What do I have of value to offer them?
· How can I get them referrals?
· How can I help them find what they’re looking for?
· Who could I connect them with that would make a good referral partner?
Happy Networking!
